About me

I am a psychologist (MSc clin Psych., trained in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and in Psychodynamic Therapy) who has lived, studied and worked in a number of European cities (e.g. Amsterdam, Munich, Geneva, Lausanne, Oxford). I was born and am anchored in Hamburg and after all those years abroad I returned with my partner and children to this wonderful and rainy city.

About my work

As a psychologist, I am convinced that the quality of our relationships is the key ingredient for the quality of our lives. For helping you to improve your relationship I am working with evidence-based therapeutic interventions. Here I am mainly using interventions from the cognitive-behavioural approach (CBT) and Schema therapy. With these methods we are focusing on different aspects: Firstly, we are examining the interaction of your emotions, cognitive assumptions and behaviour and their impact of the situation you are in. Here I am very often experiencing that many people are not aware of their own self-regard and their basic needs. Together we are trying to develop new ways of thinking and behaving, ways that are feasible and that are appropriate for you.

Secondly, we are deeply focusing on your basic emotional needs. Here I will support you to find out what you are really longing for and how to gain what you really need. So for instance, are you really angry or are you unaware of your own sadness, are you really calm and hesitant, or are you afraid of your own anger? And what do you individually need, when you are sad, when you are afraid of being angry? Such questions are an example, of what we might be looking for. My role as your therapist is to guide you through getting you to know how to nurture your needs and live the life that suits you best.

At this point, it often is necessary to take a little walk into your past. We will spot the light on how you were raised to meet and challenge difficult situations. Very often it becomes obvious that the techniques you have learned were good for this ancient time, but for your life as an adult, these techniques are not working any more. So perhaps it is time to develop new skills and a better understanding of your current self.
