COUPLES THERAPY & PSYCHOLOGICAL COUNSELLING

Marcia Schmidt-Hoberg

Psychological Counselling

When we are working together, I seek to understand the causes of your concern and needs while supporting you in making the choices and changes that feel right for you. This I do by assisting you in making changes to unhelpful patterns in your attitudes, behaviour and relationship. Together we will work on solutions that are practical and manageable to you so that you are able to integrate them into your daily life. To understand the causes of your concerns, it sometimes is necessary to take a short but close look at your past experiences, mainly childhood and adolescence. By doing so you might be able to get a better understanding of why you have managed certain situations in a particular pattern. However, by reflecting on these past experiences, you may also become more understanding, that this pattern is no longer necessary and that it is time to move on and change. Since it is not that easy to do so, I am here to help. By supporting you I will provide a warm confidential safe space where you can explore any issues that you are currently struggling with, within a timeframe that works for you.

I am working with an integration of evidence-based therapeutic interventions, with a focus on the cognitive-behavioural approach. In my work, I am also including Schema Therapy, which shows a strong positive outcome in psychological counselling.

Procedure

In the first session, you get time to explain the issues you are struggling with. Together we will define potential main topics you would like to work on and how to define the goals you would like to achieve when counselling has ended.

This can give you the chance to see how well the change has already established in your daily life. However, it also shows you where perhaps further support is needed and what you would like us to work on together.

When you are facing an intensive crisis where you feel overwhelmed and not able to cope with, it is possible to meet in higher frequencies. Sometimes it seems to be sufficient to schedule an additional session for 25 min. Intensive care counselling should only take place for a particular timeframe.
